A year of change and challenging stereotypes

They are the best of the best this year. Those who questioned stereotypes, debunked the status quo and made new rules as they went. We bring you those who made 2013 a value-added experience for you and me.

Deepika Padukone
It is not every year that the most successful actor of the year is actually an actress (apologies, gender police). Deepika Padukone worked in the right films, gave stupendous performances and four of her films were back-to-back hits.
We have been showering epithets on the Khans year after year, but for Deepika we have one that suits her to the T — game changer.
There’s no denying that Deepika Padukone has had a great 2013. With four box-office hits – Race 2, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela – she has clearly earned the title of the most successful actor this year. In terms of performances, she also came into her own.
In an interview to Hindustan Times, Bollywood’s current golden girl says to be a game changer in this industry, one need to take risks. “I think it comes out of not worrying about the end result of anything and taking risks. Risk takers are game changers… as are those who work fearlessly,” says Deepika.
What we say: Howzzat for women’s empowerment?
