Deepika invited for celeb badminton league
Actor has been approached by officials of the league in a bid to promote the sport
Lately, Bollywood has been seen taking a keen interest in sports, with few buying teams in diverse sporting leagues and others promoting specific games in their own way. Taking a cue from that, a badminton league featuring several film actors from the south is set to have Deepika Padukone as one of the chief guests at the event.
“We have invited Deepika Padukone to be the chief guest for one of the days during the league. In fact, she has, in principle, agreed to be a part of it. We will soon confirm the date,” says Mouli Madhan, the founder and chairman of the three-day event, slated to take place later this year.
Madhan also reveals that former Indian badminton player and Deepika’s father, Prakash Padukone, and exbadminton champion Pullela Gopichand have already confirmed their presence. The organisers believe that the presence of celebrities will help publicise the league. “We have seen how sporting events attract the media’s attention with the presence of Bollywood celebrities. Deepika’s presence will definitely add to the publicity of our league, in turn promoting the sport,” adds Madhan.
